Tempura is most well-known as crisply deep-fried seafood and vegetables. Gatten is the only restaurant in Japan which specialises in succulent marbled Japanese beef tempura. Try it as an indulgent steak tempura, or on skewers in the style of yakitori.Gatten’s drink menu covers beers, wines,whiskeys and an extensive Kyoto-centred sake list. Especially popular is the Matcha Beer made with local Uji green tea, as well as original cocktails.Gatten boasts one of the city’s best locations, sitting at the entrance to the famous Pontocho street.

Very cosy, tasty food. We went at about 7ish and it was very full so we had to sit at the counter. They were very nice about us bringing in a stroller. We did have to chase for some of the food we ordered, and in the end we decided to leave as the server was very nice but pushed to cover all the tables. If you want to go book ahead of time and don't be afraid to gently remind about dishes.

Stumbled across this cool and trendy place and I'm glad! Had all of the sake cocktails and lots of different alcoholic beverages, as well as ordering beef and salmon tempura. Fantastic! Staff were great too!!
